Athens - Greece

This day was the closest we came to bad weather.  It was very windy at the Acropolis of Athens but the overcast conditions made the heat much more bearable especially in the crowds.

I had originally planned to catch the train on the green line from Piraeus to Omonoia then change to the red line back to the Acropolis. A wonderful Greek man gave us advice as he heard Yumi and I discuss/debate/negotiate the best station to get off.

He told us to get off 2 stops earlier than Omonoia at Thissio on the green line and walk from there to the Acropolis.  You can see the Acropoils when you get out of the station. It was a wonderful short walk along a very wide stone pathway filled with vendors and restaurants.

Top middle of the photo is the Temple of Olympian Zeus down below the Acropolis. We would walk there next.

The weather is back to beautiful now as we walk around the Temple of Olympian Zeus…but it is very hot.

Time for a late lunch. I hope you are going to eat something Yumi? Most meals came with a 500mm beer for about 5 euro. This one came with free bread and desert. Cheaper than Australia.

One of the two things Yumi looked for everywhere we went was pasta.

I thought she had no chance of finishing that.

The second thing that Yumi looked for everywhere we went were cats. The cat of Athens.

This little Church was on the walk from the train station back to the boat.
