Lots of weddings

6th March 2020

Recently I have been doing quite a few wedding rings for engagement rings I have previously made so I thought I would share two with you. One kept the proposal ring unchanged and the other made alterations.

FIFO ring

I made this ring in 2018 for a FIFO worker based in PNG. He asked me to incorporate the design features of several other rings in his custom ring and the above design was born. He was also one of the very few customers that get the finger size of a proposal ring spot on.

With the wedding approaching I was asked to come up with a design to match the engagement ring.

The finished ring - 18ct yellow gold with 3 x .01 carat diamonds.

The customers asked for 3 diamonds to be included in the design to represent the immediate family members. I carried over the mill-grain edge and the scroll feature from the engagement ring into the wedding ring.

Sometimes it takes me a few versions to refine a design exactly how the customer wants it but in this case the customer loved the first draft and we went straight into making the ring.

A Brizzie customer who changed the proposal ring

When I first made the proposal ring (shown above) for this customer he was living in Cairns. The engaged couple have moved to Brisbane prior to me remaking the proposal ring and making the wedding ring.. As with all my proposal rings the recipient gets the chance to refine the design or totally remake it. We did most of this via email but also with a few meeting prior to the move to Brisbane.

Often slight changes, like remaking the ring to the correct finger size, changing the height of the main gem etc… incur no cost in the remaking.

In this case the recipient of the ring wanted to add diamonds to the band and also change from 18ct white gold to 950 Cobalt Platinum for the precious metal all of which she understood would incur some extra costs.

We came up with this design above. The main diamond setting would be retained but a diamond set knife edge band would be added.

The plan was to make the wedding ring in the same design as the engagement ring band. Now knowing how we were going to remake the proposal ring and what precious metal would be used I could quote on the additional cost for the customer to consider. I also quoted on the wedding ring.

The remade proposal/engagement ring is pictured above. The main diamond is a .80 carat round brilliant cut diamond and the setting 950 Cobalt Platinum.

Below is the finished matching wedding ring. I have a lot more wedding rings going out at the moment and will probably feature some more in the next post.
