Connecting generations

4th February 2021 - Customer location: Brisbane & Phegans Bay NSW

The above pendant was a customers version of a design she had seen elsewhere that we created together via email. What makes it truly special is the use of heirloom diamonds that connect her to relatives that are no longer with us.

The pendant was created in 9ct white gold and the chain we modified so that it could be worn at both 40 and 45cm lengths.

Of the three diamonds the largest is from her late mothers engagement ring. A classic example of a time gone by when engagement rings were far more modest.

Another piece that was delivered this week also got me a bit sentimental.

14ct yellow gold cricket bat pendant, 5cm long and weighs 7.4 grams.

When my two boys were young they loved to play cricket so I made them cricket bat pendants. Over the years I have sold a few of these and later went on to make a more modern shaped version of a bat.

This pendant is quite heavy and with the rise in the price of gold has made them far more expensive than when I first made one about 20 years ago.

The Squirrel Grip - keeping the hands in the right position.

The purchaser of this bat is a leading private cricket coach in NSW and the designer of the Squirrel Grip which was created to help batsman always have their hands in the right position on the bat. He is also the son of the great Norman O`Neill.

Have a great weekend everyone.
