Remaking one of my rings :)

27th July 2017

A recent post to the website was about remaking a ring purchased from a jewellery chain, a job I get asked to do a lot. Today we look at a remake of a ring I made and why we did it.

Back in 2011 I wrote an article about the ring we are going to remake. Back then the customer had one diamond and came to me to add three to create this ring.

When I made that ring she lived in Cairns. Now in 2017 she lives in Melbourne and contacted me to see if we could add a fifth diamond to the ring to mark a recent addition to her family.

The ring would need to be made again from scratch.  I edited a photo of the existing ring to show her the changes that would occur and also provided a quote. She liked what she saw and the quote was accepted.

This customer booked a month in advance for me to remake the ring on a visit to Cairns. The ring needed to be finished for her to take back to Melbourne.

Another of my recent posts discussed how sometimes I get booked out and cannot meet new or existing customers on short notice. Once I make a promise to meet a deadline I often let the phone go to the answering machine and block out any interruptions. This ring did get finished in time and went back with her to Melbourne.

It was made in 18ct Palladium white gold and weighs 8.6 grams. The total diamond weight is over 2 carats.
