With and without my wife

6th & 7th of November

Mareeba Wetlands, 6th November 2021.

Last Saturday late afternoon after work I headed to Mt Molloy on my own to visit Abattoir Swamp. I love spending time with my wife but I also love a bit of solitude. Above was sunset at the Mareeba Wetlands on the way home that day.

Tinaroo Dam, 7th November 2021.

The next day my wife wanted to join me on a day out despite the heat. We visited friends on their farm where we were treated to a delicious lunch and then headed to Lake Tinaroo.

Water release from the dam.

As we drove past the dam they were releasing a large amount of water. When you get water in the air and sunshine some thing almost always happens.

Rainbows visible in the spray.

Depending on where you stood the water spray was creating stunning rainbows that were just too nice not to sit and watch for a while.

As we left the sun was starting to drop and a ray of light was passing through the trees to hit a group of flowers my wife had laid out whilst she sat under a tree and let me explore the dam. It was time to head to the Lake for sunset.

Pacific Black Duck coming to join me.

When we arrived at the lakeside someone came to join us. Pacific Black Ducks are usually pretty shy and despite being common I have never really seen them tame like the white cockatoos at the picnic area at Tinaroo. So this was a first, a quite tame Pacific Black Duck expecting to be fed I guess.

The duck got out of the water and walked around checking my camera bag and tripod out. He hung around pretty much until we left.

Sunsets around the back of the lake are hard to photograph in spots like we were at that day. I decided to photograph some of the old trees in the water as I have before. After that we just sat and enjoyed our time there.

As we were heading out we passed the dam again and sunset was in full swing. This is the view of the water outlet at the base of the dam carrying the water away. Almost every time we go to Tinaroo we get a beautiful sky to view on the way out.
