Wandering around Wurruma Swamp

4th October 2020

Turtle shell at the edge of the swamp.

I have walked all the way around Wurruma Swamp but my wife has not. On a recent visit I took her for the walk. As we walked around the swamp edge we frequently came across turtle shells. Not sure if there has been a predator about or if it is due to the falling water level in the swamp.

A black Swan that day.

The reason why I went looking for Wurruma Swamp in the first place was to find the black Swans. There were quite a few present that day and they came quite close. If you want to see some photos of the Swans in some beautiful morning light you can see them in this older post.

We treat the environment badly.

Sadly as you walk around the swamp and many other areas in the Tablelands you will come across abandoned cars.

Drive by view of the Swamp

Instead of driving past the Swamp to admire it’s beauty someone thought they would dump a car there and while they were at it burn it for good measure.

A cattle trail at the swamp.

The swamp is part of a cattle farm and you will see cattle tracks everywhere. Rather than walk on the bush we followed these tracks as we circled the Swamp.

I am not sure what type of tree is in the above photo but I thought both the colours and textures of the bark were quite striking.

The swamp that day late afternoon.

As we left the swamp that day some clouds started to role in which meant we might be in for a good sunset.

Sunset that day.

And a nice sunset we did get to see as we drove home. This colour was visible just after we passed Ravenshoe. We just had to pull over and watch the sun drop below the horizon.
