Radiant rings

The classic Emerald cut.

An emerald cut gem is a rectangular gem with the corners cut off. It has what we call “step cut” facets. The large facets given a unique and in my opinion classic appearance. The downside of them is that when not kept clean the gems go duller very quickly as those same large facets highlight everything on the surface of the gem both on both the top and underneath.

The more modern creation the Radiant cut.

A radiant cut is the same rectangular shape with the corners cut off then fused with the brilliant cut faceting of a round shaped diamond. It was created in 1977 by Henry Grossbard.

2.04ct E colour VVs2 Radiant cut diamond set in 18ct yellow gold.

Recently I have been asked to make quite a few rings featuring radiant cut diamonds and will share those with you over upcoming posts.

The first ring I will share however is a little unusual as the sharp cut off corners were always intended to be hidden under the gold nugget like design of the ring. The intense brilliance of the internal facets however remains.

A nugget/earthy design which was a lot of fun to create.

I really enjoyed making this ring despite it taking two attempts to get right. The next ring I will share with you featuring a radiant cut diamond will be a bit more classical.
