Three design requests for a classic

6th February 2024 - Customer location: Cairns

Customisation 1: sapphire set under the setting

This ring is a variation of a classic 6 claw solitaire. It features a 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond of E colour and VVs2 clarity. The setting was created in 18ct Palladium white gold .

When I think about it the selection of the diamond size, colour and clarity were also a very personalised choice but for this blog post we will concentrate on three others.

The first customisation requested was a sapphire at the base of the setting. A detail with symbolism only known to and seen by the giver and recipient of the ring.

Customisation 2: pronounced knife edge band

The top of the band was to have a very distinct knife edge. This is much more pronounced than I would normally make it. A down side of having such a sharp knife edge is that it can be prone to dinting. The customer was aware of this and still wanted the feature ……and I like the look.

Customisation 3: The connection of the setting to the band.

The final custom feature was how the setting met the band. The desired look was for the setting to appear to sit/drop into the band. A classic ring with three very specific design customisations.
