Changes that make a classic unique

19th June 2022 - Customer locations: Tablelands, Nhulunbuy NT, Cairns

With classic designs like solitaires you still have many ways to make it unique. Above is just one style of many solitaire designs possible and I am going to show you how changes can be made to suit a budget and individual taste.

This ring features a 1.25 carat round brilliant cut diamond set with six claws in an 18ct palladium white gold setting. I will be delivering this ring to a Tablelands customer this week.

This tulip style of claw setting is very popular amongst my customers. Especially when using a popular design aspect I like to make the overall ring as unique as possible.

This is a version of the same designs that a customer proposed with in late 2021. To suit their budget a half carat round brilliant cut diamond was used.

Another change is that four claws were used instead of six. The use of four claws changes the side view of the ring greatly as you will see in the next photo.

For claws, the choice between 4 and 6 comes down to personal preference and more importantly the lifestyle of the wearer. For some types of wear a six claw setting is going to be more appropriate than 4 claws.

Early 2022 this ring was melted down and remade with changes made by the recipient as planned in the proposal ring process I have been using for many years now:

Article: The Proposal ring

This process makes it possible to have a surprise proposal and also get the ring exactly how the recipient wants it made to the correct finger size.

The next ring shows the changes to the design that the couple made together as one of their first tasks as an engaged couple.

The customer wore the proposal ring until we finalised the design. They decided to go with six claws and also to have a yellow gold band over a white gold one.

I made the ring to the customers specifications and we then arranged for me to set the diamond into the new ring.

And finally to highlight the possibilities even more this is a ring from way back in 2016. The same design using a different cut (shape) diamond. This diamond is a 1 carat cushion cut.

You can also see from the side profile that the customer made some slight changes to the tulip setting shape and height off the finger.

In the end even with a “standard” design like this you can make endless changes on the way to creating your ring.
