Oh.... so fine!

I originally made the above ring with one less diamond each side in the band. When we remade the proposal ring the extra diamond was added in.

Before I remake each proposal ring we always explore the desired wedding ring and what the wearer expects their rings to survive. From memory I think that was a very interesting discussion for these rings. What can I say….I am blunt.
After the customer designed her wedding ring we went back and explored the engagement ring design to get them to match just a little better. The addition of a diamond to each side of the band in the engagement ring meant that the span of diamonds on both rings matched.
As I mentioned at the start of this post with every engagement ring the customers lifestyle is always taken into account. The centre diamond with the claws on the points is a design feature that will not tolerate a more vigorous attitude to wear.
If this customer was not prepared to remove this ring during such activities that super fine band would soon be out of shape. Those very fine claws on the accent diamonds would also quickly wear down.
In a nutshell this design does not suit a person that wants to never take their rings off nor have them checked. If you wear a ring like this until failure, like most people do, you run the risk of losing gems. The customer knows this and is treating her ring accordingly.

Not intending to wear them individually she decided to have the two rings pinned together after the wedding. I am not a big fan of pinning rings but in the case of this narrow band style doing so stopped two fine bands from rubbing on each other and wearing down. Joining them also added support to both rings.
Next week I am going to write about wearing your jewellery until failure. I am sadly seeing that a lot lately. The last 10 to 15 years have seen a rise in popularity of delicate and more complicated designs in jewellery. These designs need to be treated according if you expect them to survive even when made properly.

I am heading into that insane time of the year before Christmas and am pretty much booked out already as I intend to stop work this year mid December. As I get older my desire to slow down is getting stronger. Fortunately many of my regular customers understand this and have commissioned pieces early this year.
